About the Millers

Gary and Carolyn Miller, IMB Eastern Hungary and Budapest Team Leaders
Gary & Carolyn Miller
IMB Eastern Hungary and Budapest team leaders Gary and Carolyn Miller, originally from Missouri and Kansas respectively, are both graduates of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. Carolyn's degree is in Religious Studies, and Gary's in Religious Studies and Psychology. Gary also holds a degree in Aviation Technology from LeTourneau University and a Master's in Missiology from Southwestern Seminary, and has pastored in Missouri and Texas. They have two grown children.

Both Gary and Carolyn were called to missions while students at SBU and were planning a career in mission aviation when a back injury necessitated a change in career plans. Through a series of short-term mission trips into Romania, God led them to Budapest, Hungary, where Gary taught English at the Budapest Teacher Training College for the 1998-99 school year. While there, several missionaries with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board encouraged them to apply with the IMB.  They were given a two year assignment in Romania working alongside career missionaries as Volunteer Coordinators, arranging and providing logistics for short-term mission teams. This experience strengthened their call to missions, and they applied to be appointed as career missionaries themselves.

In 2002, after meeting with leaders at the mission board and seeking God’s will regarding where they should serve, the Lord led them back to Hungary. In August of 2003 Gary and Carolyn moved to the city of Debrecen, which is their home base as they develop strategies for helping initiate church planting movements among the Magyar people.

They were very happy to welcome Darrel and Kimberly Hathcock and family to the Eastern Hungary Team in 2011.
